2024 World Digital Education Conference concludes in Shanghai
The 2024 World Digital Education Conference concluded in Shanghai on Jan 31. The conference called for global cooperation on digital education to promote inclusive and quality education for all.
The closing ceremony released the International Best Practices of Digital Education and the Global Digital Education Development Index (GDEI) and the Report on China Smart Education 2023, which provide insights and guidance for the development of digital education around the world.
The ceremony also witnessed the launching of Frontiers of Digital Education alongside the announcement of the Shanghai Call for Cooperation on Digital Education.
Huai Jinpeng, China's Minister of Education, delivered a speech at the ceremony, saying that the conference was a fruitful gathering that served as a platform for cooperation, innovation, development, and trust.
He said that the conference centered on the theme of "Digital Education: Application, Sharing, and Innovation", and covered topics including the improvement of digital literacy and competency of teachers, educational digitalization and learning society construction, artificial intelligence and digital ethics, and digital governance in education.
Huai said that conference participants proposed measures and strategies to address challenges such as how to enhance infrastructure construction, how to develop high-quality resources and facilitate the sharing of application platforms.
He added that the conference marked a new journey towards jointly building a global community for the advancement of digital education.
Stefania Giannini, UNESCO assistant director-general for education, delivered a video speech at the closing ceremony, highlighting UNESCO's support for over 17 countries in formulating digital education policies, bridging the digital divide, and enhancing national capabilities.
She said that UNESCO, grounded in a people-centric vision, will emphasize capacity, content, and connectivity, guiding the digital transformation of education to benefit students, teachers, researchers, and society.
