Global Digital Education Development Index released in Shanghai
The Global Digital Education Development Index (GDEI), a comprehensive assessment tool to measure digital education development levels in different countries, was released on Jan 31 at the closing ceremony of the 2024 World Digital Education Conference in Shanghai.
The index, developed by the China National Academy of Educational Sciences (CNAES), showed that China's ranking in digital education development jumped from 24th to 9th place, a remarkable rise of 15 positions, in the past three years.
According to the report, China has made significant achievements in three main aspects of digital education development – digital resource construction and application, digital literacy advancement, and digital education system establishment.
One of the notable milestones is the launch of the Smart Education of China platform, the world's largest educational resource center, which enables the large-scale application of public digital educational resources across the country.
China has also made substantial progress in improving digital literacy and educational governance in a relatively short time through a series of proactive measures.
On the same day, the launching ceremony of Frontiers of Digital Education, a quarterly English journal sponsored by the Higher Education Press and overseen by the Ministry of Education, was also held in Shanghai.
The journal is dedicated to interdisciplinary research in the fields of digital technology and education, covering topics such as the application of artificial intelligence in education, augmented and virtual reality, data analysis and learning analytics, online and blended learning, mobile learning and microlearning, and digital equity and educational inclusivity.
