Digital Education initiative proposed in Shanghai
The Shanghai Call for Cooperation on Digital Education was proposed during the closing ceremony of the 2024 World Digital Education Conference on Jan 31.
The initiative, announced by Xie Dong, vice-mayor of Shanghai, on behalf of the municipal government, calls for enhancing digital education transformation through policy dialogue, case exchanges, and information sharing among countries and regions.
It proposes six major actions to promote global cooperation in digital education – resource sharing, application, innovation, teacher capacity building, research, and governance.
According to the initiative, countries and regions should jointly build and share high-quality digital education resources and develop inclusive public education platforms and international learning communities.
They should also design and apply large-scale education models based on artificial intelligence and innovate education evaluation systems to achieve personalized teaching and learning.
Moreover, they should collaborate on expanding the public education service supply and constructing open and inclusive educational ecosystems, as well as integrating lifelong education, industrial development, and talent cultivation.
The initiative also emphasizes the need to improve teachers' digital capabilities and establish a global teacher capacity network to promote effective digital teaching methods and human-machine co-education.
Furthermore, it encourages countries and regions to leverage their research and practical advantages and conduct collaborative research on digital education theoretical frameworks, technical tools, and application modes.
Lastly, it urges countries and regions to formulate and implement AI application guidelines and regulations to ensure that digital education complies with ethical norms and to develop and apply intelligent tools for population prediction, resource allocation, and decision support to enhance digital education security.
