China's milestones at WorldSkills
2010: Joining WorldSkills International
In October 2010, China became the 53rd member of WorldSkills International, laying the foundation for its participation in global vocational skills competitions.
2011: Debut at the WorldSkills Competition
In October 2011, the 41st WorldSkills Competition was held in London, United Kingdom. China sent its first national delegation of six competitors and competed in six skills, marking the country’s debut at the WorldSkills Competition. Welding technician Pei Xianfeng became the first Chinese competitor to win a silver medal at the WorldSkills Competition.
2015: First gold medal
Welding technician Zeng Zhengchao won China's first-ever gold medal at the 43rd WorldSkills Competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Aug 16, 2015. At age 20, he achieved a historic milestone for China in international vocational skills competitions.
2017: Albert Vidal Award
The 44th WorldSkills Competition was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in October 2017. Chinese competitor Song Biao, competing in Industrial Mechanics, won the Albert Vidal Award, which is presented to the competitor or competitors with the highest overall score across all skills. The award is named after Francisco Albert Vidal, the founder of WorldSkills International.
2024: Albert Vidal Award again
At the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France, in September 2024, Chinese competitors Lu Junwei and Xie Huixuan, competing in Industry 4.0, won the Albert Vidal Award after achieving the highest overall score across all skills.
