The Shanghai Skills Carnival, a promotional event for the 48th WorldSkills Competition, took place at Zhonghai Zhenru Huanyu City MAX in Putuo district on July 25 and 26.

The event featured free immersive workshops in three WorldSkills disciplines — confectionery, bakery, and beauty therapy — allowing visitors to experience the competition’s featured skills firsthand through interactive participation.

As part of the 48th WorldSkills Competition, which is scheduled to open in Shanghai on Sept 22, the carnival aims to introduce WorldSkills to a broader audience by bringing hands-on skills experiences into shopping malls and other public spaces.

Visitors were able to explore three themed experience zones, where WorldSkills competitors and national team members guided them through hands-on activities.

One visitor said the workshop not only introduced him to a new skill but also allowed him to take home his handmade creation as a memorable souvenir.

Since April, community-based vocational training has expanded under a demand-driven model, while the third vocational skills competition, held from June to October, continues to support skills development across multiple sectors.

Vocational schools, including Shanghai Caoyang Vocational and Technical School, have also continued to train students in accordance with WorldSkills standards.

Ahead of the competition, the Shanghai Skills Carnival will continue visiting shopping malls and public spaces across the metropolis, bringing skills culture closer to everyday life.
