China has unveiled its national delegation for the 48th WorldSkills Competition, with 71 competitors representing the country across all 64 skill categories at the September event in Shanghai, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security announced on Aug 23.

The 220-member delegation comprises 49 students and 22 workers, drawn from 21 provincial-level regions. The competitors have an average age of 21, ranging from 18 to 25.

This will be China's eighth appearance at the biennial competition and the third time it has fielded entrants in every discipline.

Since joining WorldSkills International in 2010, China has won 93 gold, 41 silver, and 28 bronze medals, along with 71 medallions for excellence across the previous seven competitions. It has topped both the gold medal table and the overall team rankings for four consecutive editions.

The competition, to be held from Sept 22-27 in Shanghai, will feature a record number of newly added skill events, spanning drone systems to smart security technologies. Organizers said the expanded lineup is intended to reflect evolving industry trends and technological progress.

The national delegation was approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the government body responsible for China's participation in the global skills contest.
