Temporary road restrictions and metro service changes will be implemented for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.

The main changes affect areas around the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Center on Sept 22 and 27 and around the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), or NECC, from Sept 23 to 26, with some road restrictions continuing through Sept 30. Extended and additional metro services are also planned from Sept 24 to 27 around the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, which runs from Sept 25 to 27.

Temporary road restrictions

On Sept 22, traffic restrictions will apply to several roads around the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Center:

• All day: Expo Avenue between Zhoujiadu Road and West Gaoke Road will be closed to motor vehicles, non-motorized vehicles, and pedestrians.
• 2 pm to midnight: Expo Avenue between North Changqing Road and Zhoujiadu Road will be closed to motor vehicles, non-motorized vehicles, and pedestrians. The sidewalk on the south side will remain open.
• 3 pm to midnight: Jikun Road between Expo Avenue and Xueye Road Number Two will be closed to motor vehicles and non-motorized vehicles.
• 7 pm to midnight: Bocheng Road between Shangnan Road and West Gaoke Road and Guozhan Road between Shangnan Road and West Gaoke Road will be closed to motor vehicles and non-motorized vehicles.

From 7 am to midnight, general traffic may use the bus lanes along Yaohua Road and South Pudong Road between North Changqing Road and West Gaoke Road.

Around NECC, the following restrictions will apply:

• From Sept 23 to 26, 7 am to 6 pm, motor vehicles will be prohibited on Laigang Road between Songze Avenue and East Yinggang Road, as well as on the Laigang Road exit ramp of Jianhong Elevated Road. Buses operating regular routes are exempt.
• From Sept 23 to 30, large passenger and freight vehicles will be prohibited from traveling east to west on West Zhulu Road between Mingzhu Road and Huaxu Highway throughout the day.

Police cars, fire engines, ambulances, and emergency repair vehicles on official duty, as well as vehicles and personnel holding WorldSkills credentials issued by the public security authorities, will be exempt from these restrictions.

Metro station changes

On Sept 22 and 27, Exit 4 of China Art Museum Station on Line 8 will be closed from 2 pm until the end of service. Other entrances and exits will remain open.

On Sept 23, the National Exhibition and Convention Center Station and Panxiang Road·Shanghai National Accounting Institute Station on Line 2 will be closed from the start of service until noon. Line 2 trains will pass through both stations without stopping, and the entrances and exits to the affected Line 2 stations will be closed.

Extended metro services

From Sept 24 to 26, Lines 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 13 will extend operating hours for three consecutive days, with the last extended-service trains departing from their origin stations at midnight.

Normal transfers will be available during the extended service period. Passengers transferring should check the last-train time for the connecting line.

On Sept 27, Lines 1, 2, 10, and 17 will run additional trains until midnight to accommodate late-night arrivals at the Hongqiao transport hub.

Transfers will not be available at interchange stations for passengers on these additional trains. Operating hours may be further extended depending on passenger flows at Hongqiao.

Shuttles from NECC

Two shuttle routes will operate from 3 pm to 7 pm each day from Sept 23 to 26:

• NECC P5 Parking Lot → Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2
• NECC P5 Parking Lot → Zhongchun Road Station on Metro Line 9

Services at WorldSkills-related stations

Stations around the WorldSkills venues will provide bilingual guidance, accessibility services, and electronic wayfinding. Bilingual volunteers will also be available, and several stations will have translation devices.

Mobile luggage storage lockers will be added at some stations with high tourist traffic.

Shanghai Metro will closely monitor key WorldSkills-related stations and transport hubs, including National Exhibition and Convention Center Station, China Art Museum Station, Hongqiao Railway Station, Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 Station, and Pudong Airport Terminal 1 & 2 Station. Additional staff and volunteers will be deployed at key interchange stations, stations near popular tourist attractions, and stations near the WorldSkills venues.
