Shanghai will host the inaugural Shanghai International Light Festival, which is set to dazzle spectators with a mesmerizing array of light installations and artistic displays under the theme "Travel in Light".

The festival will kick off on Sept 19, with Yangpu and Putuo districts hosting their respective events from Sept 29 to Oct 6 and Sept 30 to Oct 7. Each district will offer a unique lineup of attractions and activities, showcasing Shanghai's rich cultural heritage and artistic development while fostering engagement across diverse sectors such as commerce, tourism, sports, and exhibitions.

In Yangpu district, the festival will adopt the theme "Luminous Show Time" and span key locations along the picturesque Yangpu riverside, from the Fisherman's Wharf to the iconic Yangpu Bridge, as well as the bustling Wujiaochang commercial area. Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China and the fifth anniversary of the "people's city" concept, the events will integrate with the University Student Tourism Festival and Oktoberfest, promising a dynamic fusion of cultural celebrations and entertainment.

 

Highlights in Yangpu district include a series of captivating attractions:

         Visual Landmarks: Striking installations will be visible at the Yangpu riverside, Wujiaochang commercial area, and B-Link.

         Opening Lighting Ceremony: A spectacular light show will be held on Sept 29 at Show Time Plaza, connecting prominent landmarks such as the WorldSkills Museum, Jiangwan Stadium, and Wujiaochang area.

         Industry Synergy: A light and projection show will be held on Sept 25 at Jiangwan Stadium and Wujiaochang, followed by a series of Oktoberfest and JZ Festival events from Sept 26 to Oct 6.

         Community Engagement: Interactive installations like the "I Love Yangpu" light bulb display and the "Forever 18-Year-Old Yangpu" inflatable installations will be set up, offering engaging experiences for visitors of all ages.

         Light Art Shows: Architectural projection displays and interactive exhibits will be available from Sept 29 to Oct 6 in key locations including Jiangwan Stadium, Wujiaochang commercial area, and the Yangpu riverside.

         Light Art Installations: Urban spaces such as Daxue Road, KIC Plaza, B-Link, and the Yangpu riverside will be transformed into dynamic outdoor galleries.

         Yangpu Light Map: An innovative online and offline map will be available to assist visitors in navigating the festival's myriad attractions and events.

 

In Putuo district, the festival will adopt the theme "Dreamscape Journey", focusing on a captivating "water and land" concept around the scenic Suzhou Creek Half Marathon Park. Key attractions in the district will include:

           Cruise the Suzhou Creek: A mesmerizing light and shadow cruise will offer panoramic views of the illuminated cityscape.

           Light Up the Landmarks: Over 3,000 LED lights will illuminate the iconic Wuning Road Bridge.

           M50 Creative Park: The park will feature more than 20 dazzling light installations, including inflatable sculptures and captivating light shows.

           Interactive Installations: Engaging light displays activated by movement will be set up at Suzhou Creek Half Marathon Park and Haina Park.

           Global Harbor: A stunning light show will be held on the Global Harbor towers, showcasing scenes from "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" and contemporary art pieces.
