Ready to embrace the thrill of cycling against the stunning backdrop of suburban Shanghai? Now's your chance! The inaugural Tour of Shanghai cycling race is now accepting registrations for its amateur event.

The Tour of Shanghai will take place across five "new cities" in Shanghai's suburban districts of Jiading, Qingpu, Songjiang, and Fengxian, as well as Nanhui in the Pudong New Area from Sept 20 to 22.

In addition to the professional race, the event organizers will also arrange a community ride for cycling amateurs aged between 18 and 55 on the final day of the event. The community ride has opened 1,500 slots for registration starting from noon on Sept 2 through the "久事体育 (Juss Sports)" app for a fee of 218 yuan ($30.6) per person.

The amateur ride, which will take cyclists along the picturesque Dishui Lake, is divided into three categories: Men's Elite, Women's Elite, and an Open Challenge category for both genders. Participants in the Elite categories must ride road bikes with drop handlebars, while the Open Challenge category allows various bike types excluding electric bikes, fixed-gear bikes, shared bicycles, and e-bikes. Riders in all categories are required to maintain minimum speeds of 35, 30, and 25 kilometers per hour, respectively, over the 38-kilometer route.

To ensure a professional and enjoyable experience for all participants, the event organizers will offer race packs containing cycling helmets, on-the-go nutrition packs, cycling glasses, mineral water, travel bags, energy gels, and more. Race packs can be collected on Sept 21 from 10 am to 6 pm and on Sept 22 from 8 am to 11 am.

Beyond the professional race and the community ride, the event will also feature a carnival at Dishui Lake, combining brand displays, food sharing, and interactive activities for attendees on Sept 21 and 22.
