2024 Rolex Shanghai Masters attracts record audience
The 2024 Rolex Shanghai Masters came to a thrilling close as rising star Jannik Sinner secured a commanding victory over tennis legend Novak Djokovic in the finals held at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Minhang district on Oct 13.
Spanning the entirety of the National Day holidays, this star-studded tournament captivated a record-breaking total audience of over 220,000 spectators. Notably, nearly 70 percent of these viewers hailed from locations beyond Shanghai, according to Juss Sports and the publicity department of Minhang district.
In a bid to enhance the overall fan experience, the event introduced a range of tennis cultural activities to stimulate consumer engagement. The tournament's official souvenirs soared in popularity, recording unprecedented sales figures. Attendees holding ticket stubs were also encouraged to explore additional activities in Shanghai at a discount, including a scenic cruise along the Huangpu River and an exclusive exhibition at the Shanghai Museum titled On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt.
Organizers expressed their intent to leverage the influence of the Shanghai Masters to host more youth tennis competitions, fostering the development of budding Chinese tennis talents. To enhance the tournament infrastructure, plans are underway to equip two additional tennis courts at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena with movable roofs to mitigate the impact of inclement weather conditions.
