Editor's note: 2025 marks the final year of China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). During their annual "two sessions", Shanghai's districts outlined their agendas for the year ahead. Let's take a closer look.
During the seventh session of the sixth Songjiang District People's Congress held on Jan 8-9, Shanghai's Songjiang district revealed its ambitious agenda for 2025, placing a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainable growth, and the well-being of its residents.
The district's government work report outlined key targets for economic and social progress in the upcoming year, with a primary goal of achieving a 3-percent increase in regional gross domestic product and a 1-percent year-on-year rise in local fiscal revenue.
Central to the district's vision is its commitment to elevating living standards for residents, with a focus on ensuring that per capita disposable income grows in parallel with economic expansion while maintaining stability in the employment landscape.
Additionally, efforts will be directed towards enhancing the natural environment, with targeted reductions in energy consumption per unit of GDP, carbon dioxide emissions, and pollutants.
Aligning with these objectives, Songjiang district has identified a number of strategic priorities for the year ahead.
A key focus is on fortifying the industrial foundation and brand influence of the G60 Scientific and Technological Innovation Corridor, with the goal of turning it into a top innovation hub of the Yangtze River Delta region.
The district also aims to enhance the functionality of Songjiang's new urban areas, with a vision of creating a more dynamic and attractive city in the future.
In addition to these initiatives, the district is making efforts to drive agricultural and rural modernization, envisioning a revitalized and picturesque rural landscape.
