2025 goals: Yangpu district to propel digital economy growth
Editor's note: 2025 marks the final year of China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). During their annual "two sessions", Shanghai's districts outlined their agendas for the year ahead. Let's take a closer look.
In a strategic move to propel economic development and foster innovation, Shanghai's Yangpu district has set its sights on enhancing the digital economy through the establishment of world-class clusters and the introduction of future industries.
Its vision was unveiled on Jan 8 as a key objective for 2025 in the district government's work report, released during the seventh session of the 17th Yangpu District People's Congress.
Yangpu district is committed to developing multiple resilient and sustainable industrial clusters, each valued at over 100 billion yuan ($13.64 billion).
In the online new economy sector, the district aims to boost revenue to more than 300 billion yuan by focusing on leading enterprises and attracting a diverse range of new businesses and emerging sectors to establish a presence in the region.
In the field of intelligent manufacturing, the district is set to expand into future-oriented industries, with a particular emphasis on embodied intelligence, the low-altitude economy, brain-inspired intelligence, and advanced energy storage technologies.
By nurturing innovative enterprises that seamlessly integrate research and development capabilities, operational headquarters, and manufacturing facilities, Yangpu seeks to foster a dynamic ecosystem conducive to sustained growth and technological advancement.
While pushing the architectural design industry toward greater intelligence and sustainability, efforts are also focused on emerging service consumption formats such as animation, gaming, and micro-dramas.
These initiatives aim to foster a thriving cultural content creation industry and position the district as a hub for traditional Chinese cultural trends, a cradle for original IPs, a magnet for creative talent, and a showcase for high-quality content.
