The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival announced the official selection for its Golden Goblet Awards on May 30, with all films in the main competition and documentary sections set to have their world premieres.

This marks the first time in the history of the Golden Goblet Awards that the main competition lineup consists entirely of world premieres, underscoring Shanghai's growing appeal as a first-stop platform for filmmakers.

A total of 12 films have been shortlisted for the main competition. They include Superbuhei, the feature directorial debut of Josef Brandl, a set designer on The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Night of Blindness by Berlin Film Festival award-winning director Reis Celik.

Launched in 2004, the Asian New Talent section continues to serve as a platform for discovering emerging directors and supporting a new generation of Asian filmmakers.

This year's section features works from 11 countries and regions, with entries from Jordan and Kyrgyzstan shortlisted for the first time.

Several shortlisted works also represent firsts for established film professionals, including directorial debuts by Sompot Chidgasornpongse, an assistant director to Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Hong Kong screenwriter Mak Tin Shu, as well as Luo Pan's first work as a lead actor and screenwriter. Luo has previously won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Cinematography.

Some shortlisted works were previously supported by SIFF Project, forming a full cycle from project development to completed films.

In the animation section, five films have been shortlisted, including two world premieres, two international premieres, and one Asian premiere.

The short film section received more than 1,400 submissions this year. A total of 15 films were selected, including 10 live-action shorts and five animated shorts. Among them, 11 will have their world premieres and four will have their international premieres.
