The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from June 12 to 21.

This year's edition will screen over 420 films at 47 cinemas in Shanghai and in five cities (Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Hefei) in the Yangtze River Delta region, with more than 1,500 screenings in total. The screenings will run from June 12 to 28.

Ticketing Q&A

1. When do tickets go on sale?

  • Online sales for Shanghai screenings (June 12-28) begin at noon on June 5. Offline sales begin at 2 pm on the same day.
  • For screenings in the Yangtze River Delta region (June 19-28), both online and offline sales start at noon on June 6.

2. Where can I buy tickets?

  • Damai app (official ticketing platform)
  • Taopiaopiao app
  • Taopiaopiao mini program (accessible via Alipay, Taobao, and WeChat)
  • Ticket counters at participating cinemas

For users outside Shanghai, set your location to Shanghai on Damai or Taopiaopiao to access the SIFF page. Viewers in Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Hefei can find local screening tickets on the homepage of Damai or Taopiaopiao in their respective cities.

3. Where can I find information about the films being screened?

Check the SIFF section on the homepage of the Damai or Taopiaopiao platforms.

4. How can I purchase tickets quickly?

(Supported only on the Damai app and Taopiaopiao app)

Before sales begin: Browse the schedule, select your preferred film and cinema, and tap the "+" icon to add the film to "My Schedule".

After sales start: Purchase directly from the schedule or from your added schedule.

Note: The schedules in the Damai app and Taopiaopiao app are not synced. You must complete your purchase on the same platform where you added the film to your schedule.

5. What happens if I have an unpaid order?

You cannot have multiple unpaid orders. If you already have an unpaid order and try to select seats again, your previous order will be automatically canceled and the seats will be released. You will need to reselect seats in the new order.

6. How do I collect my tickets?

After purchasing, go to the cinema where the film is being screened and use the dedicated SIFF ticket machine at the venue. Tickets cannot be collected at other cinemas.

Open your order in the Damai app ("My Orders – Movies") or the Taopiaopiao app ("My – Movie Tickets") and scan the QR code or enter the ticket code to collect your tickets.

Arrive at the cinema at least one hour before the screening to avoid long queues and ensure ample time for ticket collection.

7. Can I enter with an electronic ticket?

No. A valid paper ticket is required for entry to all screenings.

8. Are there any restrictions on ticket purchases?

  • You cannot add snacks or drinks to your order when purchasing tickets.
  • Each user may purchase four to six tickets per screening. Vouchers, exchange tickets, discount cards, membership cards, and other similar offers are not accepted.
  • IOS and Android users can update the Damai app to version 9.0.20 or above, and the Taopiaopiao app to version 11.16.1 or above. HarmonyOS users can update the Damai app to version 9.0.20.2 or above, and the Taopiaopiao app to version 11.25.6.1 or above. These versions support UnionPay app payments and may offer additional discounts.
  • The same account, ID number, phone number, IP address, device, payment account, or other reasonable identifiers will be treated as belonging to the same user.

9. Can I refund or exchange my ticket if I have a schedule conflict?

No. All tickets for the festival are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

10. Will ticket purchases count towards my Taomai VIP membership?

Yes. SIFF ticket purchases count toward your Taomai VIP membership (jointly launched by Taopiaopiao and Damai) progress and earn you points, with a cap of 300 points per order and 500 points per day.

11. How can I request an invoice?

The invoicing process for festival orders is the same as for regular orders. Please contact the cinema where you have purchased your tickets.

12. Are there children's tickets available?

No. The festival operates on a one-person, one-ticket, assigned-seating policy. Children's tickets are not available.

13. Are there any discounts or subsidies for ticket purchases?

Yes. Shanghai Pudong Development Bank and UnionPay are offering limited "double ticket benefits" for this year's festival. For more details, please check the official subsidy rules.

14. Are there any special screenings this year?

Yes. Special popular science film screenings will be available through the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum WeChat mini program.

Tickets can be purchased up to seven days in advance (excluding the day of purchase). Please check the schedule and ticket availability in advance.

  • June 5: Tickets go on sale at noon, aligned with the SIFF ticket launch.
  • From June 6 onward: The regular ticketing rules of the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum apply, with tickets for screenings seven days later becoming available daily at 10:30 am.

15. What if my ticket purchase fails?

Tickets issuance may fail due to high demand or system instability at the cinema. If a purchase fails, your payment will be refunded to the original payment method.

16. Are there any other important notes?

Please arrive on time, do not take photos or film the screen, and set your phone to silent or airplane mode. Contact on-site staff if you need assistance.
