Donghua University offers general Chinese program for international students in fall 2025
Donghua University is now accepting applications for its Fall 2025 General Chinese Language Program, inviting international students of all proficiency levels to join a high-quality, immersive learning experience in Shanghai.
Program information
1. Schedule
Duration: Sept 15, 2025 – Jan 16, 2026
Class hours: 9 am – 12:15 pm, Monday to Friday (Beijing Time)
2. Multiple levels
The program offers four levels: Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced. Each class requires a minimum of eight students.
After the application deadline, students will receive details via email about an online placement test. Placement will be based on test results.
Students may request to adjust their class levels during the first week of instruction.

The program uses a self-developed textbook series titled Chinese in Real Life, supplemented by additional resources such as key vocabulary lists, language points, video dialogues, audio recordings, and lesson summaries.
All learning materials and assignments are accessible via an online learning platform, allowing students to review content anytime and anywhere.
5. Fees
Application fee: 600 yuan ($83)
Tuition: 10,800 yuan (includes textbook fee)
Insurance: 400 yuan per semester
Application and admission
1. Online application
Apply at https://admissions.dhu.edu.cn
Required documents: Passport information page and ID photo. Students currently in China must upload a copy of their valid visa page.
2. Application deadline
Deadline: July 6, 2025
New applicants referred by a current or former DHU international student can receive an application fee waiver. The full name of the referrer is required.
Current students who wish to continue their studies will also enjoy an application fee waiver and tuition discount. Further details will be shared by the university.
3. Admission
The admission process takes approximately two to four weeks. Successful applicants will receive admission information via email, including details about the placement test and registration for the fall semester.
4. Registration date
Tentatively scheduled for Sept 10 to 11, 2025
Note: All students must complete registration within the designated period. Failure to register on time may result in disqualification. Please stay informed through official notices and personal email updates.

1. Visa
The university provides visa support (X2 or residence permit for study) based on each applicant's situation. Please consult the office for more details.
2. Accommodation
Campus dormitory applications are available and will be processed according to actual availability. Please follow official announcements and email instructions.
3. Refund policy
Application fee: Non-refundable
Tuition refund:
- Full refund if study is terminated before instruction begins
- 50 percent refund if terminated within the first week
- No refund after the second week
4. Insurance
All students are required to purchase the designated insurance upon registration. This plan provides coverage throughout the study period in China. The cost is 400 yuan per semester.
