SISU launches 2025 Shanghai Summer School for Multilingual Translation & Interpretation Talents
Shanghai International Studies University is now accepting applications for its 2025 Shanghai Summer School for Multilingual Translation and Interpretation Talents.
Shanghai International Studies University is a member of the United Nations MoU network, an academic partner of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Interpretation, and an active member of Conférence Internationale Permanente d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes (CIUIT).
The Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation of SISU has been awarded the highest ranking by AIIC, the International Association of Conference Interpreters.
Building on the university's strengths in three national key disciplines — English Language and Literature, Russian Language and Literature, and Arabic Language and Literature — SISU plans to offer translation programs in three language pairs: Chinese-English, Chinese-Russian, and Chinese-Arabic.
The 2025 Shanghai Summer School for Multilingual Translation & Interpretation Talents serves as a platform for cultivating high-level, multilingual translation professionals. It also helps identify potential outstanding candidates for SISU's 2026 Chinese-Arabic translation joint training program and master's program in translation for international students.
Timeline
The program runs from Aug 4 to Aug 29, 2025, lasting four weeks in total (registration date: Aug 4).
Courses
1. Translation and Chinese language
Classes are held Monday to Friday, with four sessions each morning from 8:30 am to 11:50 am (Beijing time).
Students are grouped according to their Chinese proficiency level. Translation courses are planned for three language pairs: Chinese-English, Chinese-Arabic, and Chinese-Russian.
2. Traditional culture courses, including Chinese calligraphy, tai chi, and paper cutting.
3. Translation practice activities, visits to well-known translation enterprises, city tours of Shanghai, and cultural experiences with local residents.
Enrollment
A total of 50 students will be admitted: 20 scholarship recipients and 30 self-funded participants.
Scholarship (20 recipients)
The scholarship covers:
- Tuition and textbook fees for the four-week program
- Accommodation in a shared twin room
- Fees for cultural activities organized by the university
- Comprehensive insurance during the stay in China
All other expenses are the responsibility of the participant, including international travel, visa fees, meals, and other personal costs.
Self-funded (30 participants)
- Tuition: 3,700 yuan ($514.91)
- Application fee: 450 yuan
- Accommodation: 100 yuan per day for a shared twin room
- Insurance: 160 yuan

Eligibility
Applicants must be foreign nationals, aged between 16 and 40, in good health, and have reliable financial support and a legal guardian. Priority will be given to those with HSK Level 4 or above.

- Certificate of highest academic qualification (or proof of expected graduation) and academic transcript
- A copy of the applicant's passport

Application process
1. Visit http://apply.shisu.edu.cn and create an account.
2. Fill out the online application form. Click on "Chinese Language Program - Apply" and select "2025 Shanghai Summer School for Multilingual Translation & Interpretation Talents, From 2025-8-4 To 2025-8-29" under the "Study Period" (学习时间) section.

3. Complete your personal information, upload all required application materials, and submit the application.
