Shanghai Summer School gathers intl students to explore sustainable aquaculture innovation
The 2025 Shanghai Summer School program on Marine Cultivation and Fisheries has brought together 28 international students from 14 countries to explore China's innovative development in sustainable aquaculture.
The program opened on June 23 at Shanghai Ocean University, where university vice president Ni Weijie emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the face of global food security and marine ecological challenges. He said the program would highlight China's practices in ecological farming and green fisheries, offering insights into building a "blue granary" to safeguard global food supplies.
Docgne Wongue François Xavier, a participant from the African Development Bank, spoke on behalf of the international students. He noted Africa's rich aquatic ecosystems and the untapped potential of fisheries and aquaculture to strengthen food security and economic resilience. He expressed his hope that the program would encourage cross-border collaboration on a more sustainable, shared future.
Over the next three weeks, students will engage in academic seminars led by Shanghai Ocean University experts, participate in hands-on laboratory sessions, and embark on field visits to aquaculture sites.
