SJTU launches 2025 Global Summer School for students worldwide
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) held the opening ceremony of the 2025 Global Summer School on July 1 at the Minhang campus, launching a program designed to foster intellectual engagement, cross-cultural dialogue, and innovation-driven exploration.
More than 400 students from leading global institutions — including Cambridge, Oxford, Columbia, Toronto, the Australian National University, and the National University of Singapore — have joined the program.
Speaking on behalf of international students, Winona Cheyenne Nata from the School of Design of SJTU offered practical advice and shared personal reflections to help fellow participants navigate their academic journey and everyday life in China.
The ceremony included an interactive Q&A session, giving students an early sense of SJTU's distinctive campus life and academic culture. The atmosphere built to a crescendo with a traditional Chinese music concert featuring the pipa, guzheng, and erhu, offered a powerful, immersive experience of Chinese musical heritage.
Drawing inspiration from China's iconic animated film Nezha, an SJTU student team of the same name showcased their latest innovation: a submersible-aerial hybrid vehicle. The project, developed over eight years, reflects the university's deep commitment to interdisciplinary research and innovation.
This year's Global Summer School comprises a two-week undergraduate course and a six-week undergraduate research program. The latter spans 27 schools, 104 laboratories, and 176 projects, offering international students hands-on academic training and an integrated cultural experience.
