International students representing countries such as Malaysia, Japan, Laos, the United States, and Thailand completed the Chinese Government Scholarship International Summer School Program on July 25 at Shanghai Ocean University.

Centered on two major themes, Modern Shanghai and Ocean Culture, the one-month program offered immersive experiences exploring both the city's rapid development and its deep-rooted marine heritage.

As an international metropolis with enduring ties to the sea, Shanghai reflects China's modern efforts to align urban growth with ecological sustainability.

During the "Modern Shanghai" segment, students visited iconic landmarks such as the Shanghai Museum, the Bund's cluster of historic buildings, and Xinchang Ancient Town, gaining insights into the city's cultural and urban evolution.

They also toured several high-tech companies in the Lin-gang Special Area, where they witnessed firsthand how intelligent technologies are shaping Shanghai's future and fueling innovation across industries.

The "Ocean Culture" segment invited students to immerse themselves in China's rich maritime heritage. At a themed paper-cutting workshop on fishing culture, they crafted intricate designs of fish, waves, and fishing boats under expert guidance. The "Modern Shipping" exhibition at the Shanghai History Museum also offered a glimpse into the city's evolving maritime industry.

Shanghai Ocean University presented its latest breakthroughs in breeding aquatic species and developing new aquaculture varieties at the program's achievements exhibition, highlighting its scientific contributions to sustainable ocean development.

This summer school offered students a deeper understanding of Shanghai and China. Many participants shared that the experience not only revealed the dynamism of modern Shanghai and the richness of ocean culture but also fostered cross-cultural friendships and mutual understanding.
