Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) 'Silk Road' Project at SHCM for 2025/2026
The Shanghai Conservatory of Music is now accepting applications for the 2025/2026 academic year under the Chinese Government Scholarship "Silk Road" Program (CSC Type B). The application deadline is May 23, 2025.
The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) "Silk Road" Project was established by the Ministry of Education to support Chinese universities in recruiting outstanding international students from Belt and Road countries to study in China.

Application requirements
- Applicants must be citizens of countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, other than the People's Republic of China.
- Applicants for bachelor's degree programs should have a high school diploma or equivalent qualifications and be under the age of 25.

- Submitting a Chinese Proficiency Test certificate (HSK score certificate valid after May 20, 2023). A New HSK Level 4 Certificate with a score of 180 points or above is required for undergraduate programs.
- Applicants who graduate from Malaysian Chinese Independent High Schools are exempt from the HSK examination.

- Applicants must apply for SHCM's undergraduate programs and take the entrance exam on time, according to the 2025 Shanghai Conservatory of Music Admission Brochure of Undergraduate Programs for International Students.
Scholarship coverage
The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation fees, living expenses, and comprehensive medical insurance fees.
Application process
- Log into the online application system for international applicants of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (SHCM), select the "Undergraduate Scholarship Program" option, and complete the online application.
- Applicants must apply for SHCM's undergraduate programs and take the entrance exam according to the 2025 Shanghai Conservatory of Music Admission Brochure of Undergraduate Programs for International Students at: https://jwc.shcmusic.edu.cn/2025/0508/c493a57701/page.htm
- Applicants must also log into the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System, fill out the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form online, and submit the required documents.

Application documents
- Application form: Shanghai Conservatory of Music International Students Application Form (fill out online in Chinese or English)
- Passport: Scanned copy of the passport information page and all pages with China entry/exit stamps. The passport must be valid until at least September 2025. If the passport expires earlier, please apply for a new one before submitting.
- Notarized highest diploma: Prospective graduates must submit official proof of student status issued by their institution and provide the diploma upon graduation. Documents not in Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translations.
- Academic transcripts: From high school onwards. Non-Chinese/English transcripts must be accompanied by notarized translations.
- Language qualification: Valid HSK certificate or proof of completing a Chinese-taught program.
- ID photo: Recently taken, full-face, front-view, bareheaded, in JPG format, within 200 KB.
- A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Record.
- Non-criminal record report: Issued by the local public security authority within 6 months prior to submission.
- Statement of financial support: For example, a bank-issued certificate of balance.
- Self-introduction video: A 3-minute video in Chinese or English, MP4 format, max 500 MB.
Admission and enrollment
- Based on application materials and entrance exam results, top candidates for the 2025/2026 Chinese Government Scholarship - Type B "Silk Road" Project will be recommended. Final admission decisions will be made by the CSC.
- Admission results will be announced in mid-to-late July 2025 on SHCM International Education Division's official website.
- Enrollment is subject to the formal admission letter issued by SHCM. Scholarship recipients must register at SHCM within the specified period. Late registration will lead to disqualification.
- Recipients of the Chinese Government Scholarship may not receive financial support from other Chinese government or host institution scholarships simultaneously, except for one-time rewards. Violators will lose scholarship eligibility and must return received funds. Those who conceal such information will be disqualified and barred from applying for three years.
Notes
- Applicants are responsible for the authenticity of submitted materials. SHCM will verify the admission qualifications after enrollment. If applicants fail to meet international student regulations or provide false information, their admission will be canceled in accordance with university and higher education authority regulations.
- Students who fail to register on time will automatically forfeit scholarship eligibility.
