​Nanda Smart City, a major area in Shanghai's Baoshan district that aims to become a science and innovation center, is building industrial clusters with anchor enterprises at the core.

The area focuses on three future industries: digital economy, humanoid robotics and life sciences, with major firms settling in.

Last year, Unitree Robotics, one of China's best-known humanoid robot makers, signed an agreement to base its Shanghai subsidiary in Nanda Smart City.

In June, Unitree, Nanda Development and Construction Co Ltd — the developer behind Nanda Smart City — and major die-casting firm Jintuo Technology jointly established a research platform for the humanoid robot supply chain, helping Nanda build out a complete robotics industry chain.

In the digital economy sector, CRRC Assets, an asset management arm of China's rolling stock giant CRRC, has relocated its entire operation from Beijing to Nanda Smart City, where it serves as CRRC Group's regional headquarters for Shanghai.

Intchains Group, a tech company focused on blockchain technologies and innovative chip solutions, has established its domestic operations and research headquarters in Nanda, and leading high-tech companies including Tecorigin, JIAYI Intelligence Technology, and SkyEnGen Technology have also settled in Nanda.

Nanda Smart City leverages anchor firms as investment magnets to gather more upstream and downstream enterprises in the area, while working to integrate Baoshan enterprises into the supply chains of anchor firms and bring their upstream and downstream resources to the district, with chip developers such as Intchains and Tecorigin already collaborating with robot firms.

The area provides ample real-world application scenarios for tech firms. A smart inspection network for robot tests is taking shape and aims to connect major areas like the southwest area, the transit-oriented-development (TOD) core area, Nanda Central Park, municipal roads, and sites under construction.

Meanwhile, Skyengen's QT-100 humanoid traffic robot has helped direct traffic at a crossroads near the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center.

Industrial carriers are advancing in tandem, with Nanda Smart City and Lin-gang Group developing a 1-sq-m industrial pilot zone whose digital intelligence center has reached full occupancy and whose second-phase Nanda Digital Intelligence Oasis has topped out.

The supporting infrastructure is also speeding up as Fengxiang Road station TOD project will rise as a commercial flagship for northern Shanghai, while education, ecology and transport facilities are under construction for a better living and business environment.
