Shanghai's Jiading district is reaching out to the world, inviting international collaboration to boost its high-end medical device industry.

The initiative to partner internationally in the medical device sector was launched during the 2025 Jiading Biopharma Industry Development Conference and China High-end Medical Industry Cluster Innovation Cooperation Forum, which took place at Shanghai MedValley on Nov 26.

According to Xiao Wengao, Party secretary of Jiading, the initiative represents a significant step in attracting global expertise and talent to Jiading, as well as helping local innovations gain international recognition. The government will support this effort, medical institutions will offer platforms for clinical innovation, and leading companies will promote industrial growth.

Xiao noted Jiading's swift growth in the biopharmaceutical sector, backed by local government and industry leaders. The district aims to establish a hub for advanced medical devices by working with institutions like Ruijin Hospital and improving the entire process from research to application.

The conference introduced a development plan for Jiading's high-end medical device industry. This plan details the district's goals and steps to become a competitive hub by 2027, aiming to achieve over 100 new domestic medical device registrations and more than 30 international approvals. It also includes plans to establish innovation centers and incubators.

Jiading's industry growth is driven by substantial scientific research. Five new research institutions focusing on areas like respiratory and cardiovascular diseases have been established at the Shanghai MedValley to provide crucial support.

The conference highlighted five major innovations from Jiading, including advanced imaging solutions and robotics for endoscopy. These projects show successful progress from research to market-ready products.

Five new collaborative innovation platforms were also launched, spanning from technology R&D to supply chain management, demonstrating Jiading's dedication to a comprehensive innovation ecosystem.

Experts and industry leaders shared insights into advancing Jiading's medical device sector, emphasizing its potential to become a global leader in innovation and collaboration.
