Putuo proposes 'three major actions' to build smart health industry cluster
Shanghai's Putuo district has launched "three major actions" to promote the construction of a digital and intelligent health industry cluster, with a focus on industrial integration and innovation among collaborative cities of the industrial innovation belt along the Shanghai-Nanjing corridor, the construction of an industry cluster with an output value at or above 100 billion yuan ($13.67 billion), and production factor safeguards.
The ambitious action plans were proposed at a conference on promoting the integrated development of the district's smart health industry on April 14.
Initiatives such as establishing a cross-regional industrial innovation alliance, co-building an offshore innovation center, introducing core enterprises, and supporting leading companies were highlighted to support the three major actions.
The health industry is a major area of focus amid the ongoing technological revolution and increasing industrial competition. Putuo is committed to promoting the development of the sector by integrating capital, talent, innovation, and the industry chain.
Cross-regional collaboration in the smart health industry is one way in which Putuo is implementing the national strategy of integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Data reveals that the collaborative cities of the industrial innovation belt along the Shanghai-Nanjing corridor, including Nanjing, Wuxi, Changzhou, Suzhou, Nantong, Zhenjiang, and Taizhou, are home to more than 100,000 biopharmaceutical companies.
In 2025, the smart health industry has been identified as the leading sector for coordinated advancement between Shanghai and Putuo. Building upon the existing industrial foundation, the district is creating a mega industry cluster in the sector.
