Putuo's contribution to sci-tech finance sector rises 191% as ecosystem takes shape
Putuo district's sci-tech finance industry generated a direct economic contribution of nearly 6 billion yuan (about $895 million) in 2025, up 191 percent from 2020.
The district showcased the sector at the 2026 Leasing and Finance Conference, themed "AI-driven, compliance reshaping and ecosystem co-building". Its main hub, the Shanghai Sci-tech Finance Industry Cluster, stretches along Suzhou Creek and covers about 13.4 square kilometers.
The Changfeng area, its core, was home to more than 700 sci-tech finance companies as of the end of 2025. These companies, spanning private funds, financial leasing, robo-advisory, asset management and consumer finance, accounted for over 60 percent of the sector's contribution.
In 2025, Shanghai's first sci-tech finance industry dispute resolution center opened in Putuo. By the end of this August, it had received 1,380 cases and mediated 736 successfully, recovering 7.88 million yuan for consumers and cutting 5.03 million yuan in unreasonable claims against companies.
In May, Putuo held an exchange event with more than 20 influential companies across securities investment advisory services, consumer finance, financial leasing, insurance asset management and private funds. Shanghai Exchange Group proposed services including equity warrant pilots, financial leasing asset transfers and fast-track listing channels.
The industry is moving from the "physical clustering" of registered companies to a "chemical reaction" of exporting technical and compliance standards, so companies are willing to come, stay and grow.
