Brisbane's South Bank in Australia is now home to the newly built Glasshouse Theatre, featuring a curved glass facade manufactured by Songjiang-based North Glass Corporation.

Set along the river, the theater's reflective exterior mirrors the surrounding water by day and glows at night, making it a striking addition to the city skyline. The facade was assembled using nearly 150 oversized curved glass panels produced by North Glass.

Costing 150 million Australian dollars, the theater is a major project within the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Its frameless glass facade required millimeter-level precision during production and installation.

"The arch deviation could not exceed 3 millimeters, which was an extremely strict requirement," a North Glass project manager said.

The project posed major technical challenges. Traditional bent tempered glass is usually limited to smaller curves to avoid distortion, but the theater required semicircular glass panels with both forward and reverse curvatures.

North Glass engineers spent more than a month refining the process, using advanced heating and temperature-control systems to ensure even shaping across 7-meter-long panels. The team also optimized the equipment to balance structural strength with optical clarity.

"We faced a dilemma," a company technician said. "Too little heat made it difficult to control the curve, while too much heat affected optical performance."

The finished glass meets both architectural and environmental requirements, combining visual impact with thermal performance and sustainability.

North Glass is one of China's leading deep glass processing companies and the country’s only A-share listed company specializing in glass tempering equipment. Its products have been used in landmark projects including the Beijing National Stadium, Beijing Daxing International Airport, Shanghai Tower, Apple flagship stores, and Dubai Expo pavilions.
