A domestically developed monitoring system powered by the Beidou Navigation Satellite System has been deployed at the Dashixia water conservancy project in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, providing all-weather safety monitoring under extreme environmental conditions.

The high-precision system, developed by Hexagon's East China headquarters in Songjiang, marks a major milestone in the localization of technology for critical infrastructure safety monitoring.

Standing 250 meters tall, the Dashixia dam is a key project for water resource management, flood control, and clean energy development in southern Xinjiang. Its location in a deep canyon, however, poses significant challenges for traditional monitoring systems, including obstructed satellite signals, limited power supply, communication dead zones, and temperature fluctuations of more than 50 degrees Celsius.

To address these challenges, the engineering team deployed Hexagon's GM02 standalone monitoring receivers paired with high-performance choke ring antennas. The system operates in a "Beidou-only" mode, enabling fully independent high-precision positioning.

With power consumption of less than 5 watts, the entire sensor array runs sustainably on a localized, compact solar power system. Real-time data is transmitted out of the canyon through a hybrid redundant network consisting of wireless bridges, optical fibers, and 4G technology.

Field data indicates the system is performing with high stability, delivering continuous, millimeter-level deformation tracking. The automated system enables unmanned remote monitoring and supports early warning of potential structural risks.

Hexagon, a global provider of digital sensors and industrial software, established its East China headquarters in Songjiang in July 2022. The regional hub focuses on industrial internet and intelligent manufacturing technologies to support digital transformation and smart-city development.
