The ninth China International Import Expo, scheduled for Nov 5 to 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), will host 60 booths spanning more than 40,000 square meters dedicated to cultural exchange activities, according to the China International Import Expo Bureau.

Six themed sections will present national pedestrian streets, time-honored Chinese brands, intangible cultural heritage (ICH), international cities, friendship cities, and initiatives that promote consumer spending through culture, tourism, and commerce. Traditional crafts take center stage

For the first time, the expo will include dedicated sections for workshops on ICH and outstanding Chinese craftsmanship. The workshops will showcase traditional techniques from across China, including Qiang embroidery, wax printing, brocade weaving, rattan weaving, lacquerwork, and traditional stationery-making. Visitors can also watch demonstrations and take part in hands-on activities.

The craftsmanship section will display more than 60 works by national-level masters and a new generation of traditional craft inheritors from all 31 of China's provincial-level regions.

A taste of cuisines from around the world

A new 1,500-sq-m international food zone will feature five themes: European, American, Asian, Chinese, and fusion cuisine. Renowned food brands and chefs from Italy, Turkiye, the United States, South Korea, Lebanon, Brazil, Thailand, and Spain will showcase their culinary expertise. Designated photo spots and interactive installations will also be available.

Live performances and cultural events

The CIIE Arts Festival is set to take place at the central square of the venue. This year's festival will include highlights such as China Fashion Week, the Global Choice coffee selection event, and the World Coffee Blending Championship.

The Global Choice competition is scheduled for Nov 3, just before the expo begins, with its awards ceremony on Nov 7. Meanwhile, the championship will run from Nov 6 to 7.

Performance applications have been received from Canada, Spain, Kazakhstan, and various regions of China. The program is expected to feature folk dances and songs, traditional opera, instrumental performances, and fashion shows.
