Shanghai airports step up services for CIIE visitors and cargo
As the ninth China International Import Expo approaches, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport are enhancing passenger services and cargo handling for the event, which will run from Nov 5 to 10.
More convenient services for international visitors
Three CIIE reception and service centers opened at the two airports on Oct 30, along the main passenger routes through the public arrival areas. They offer multilingual translation, transportation guidance, information services, and payment assistance. Power banks are available free of charge, while translation devices can be rented.
The two airports have established eight dedicated security lanes and six check-in counters for passengers attending the CIIE. Additional services at Pudong airport include multilingual announcements, free showers available 24 hours a day, and designated service areas for elderly passengers. Hongqiao airport offers free luggage storage for up to 72 hours, wheelchair rentals, barrier-free facilities, and chilled drinking water dispensers.
Separately, the International Services Shanghai one-stop service centers are located in the international arrival halls of Pudong airport's Terminals 1 and 2, and Hongqiao airport's Terminal 1. They assist visitors with currency exchange, SIM card purchases, mobile Wi-Fi rentals, Shanghai Pass card purchases, and mobile payment guidance. Airport volunteers provide translation assistance and travel directions.
Faster handling of international exhibits
Meanwhile, shipments for the CIIE have been arriving at Pudong airport ahead of the expo.
On Oct 15, the airport's cargo terminal handled the first shipment of 400 kilograms of fragrances and cosmetics from Italy, delivering it the same day.
Cargo owners can track their cargo in real time using the AviPort air cargo information platform.
As of Oct 30, the cargo terminal had handled 18 batches of CIIE-related shipments, totaling 188 pieces and 6.1 metric tons. The goods included precision equipment, jewelry, cosmetics, fruit, and food products from Italy, Spain, Canada, Russia, Slovakia, Peru, Ethiopia, and other countries.
