How to enroll your children in a primary school in Changning district

To enroll your children in a public primary school in Changning district, please follow the requirements below based on your residency and employment status.

1. Children of Foreign Nationals Legally Employed in Shanghai

Required Documents:

  • Foreigner's Work Permit of a parent
  • Valid residence permit (minimum 1 year) of a parent
  • Passports of at least one parent and the child
  • Shanghai Temporary Residence Card issued by the local police
  • Child's birth certificate
  • Proof of residence in Changning (Property ownership certificate or rental contract)
  • Guardianship notarization (only required if the child does not live with parents, issued by Changning Notary Office)

2. Children of Foreign Nationals Holding Shanghai Residence Permit Type B

Required Documents:

  • Child's passport
  • A parent's Shanghai Residence Permit Type B, also known as Shanghai Overseas Talent Residence Permit (valid for at least one parent and child)
  • Child's birth certificate
  • Proof of residence in Changning (same as above)
  • Guardianship Notarization (if applicable, same as above)

How to apply

You can apply by logging onto the Compulsory Education Enrollment Section (义务教育入学专栏) of the Government Online-Offline Shanghai (一网通办) platform.

Choose "Kindergarten-to-Primary School Registration" (幼升小报名).

There are two options: public school application and private school application.

The application window lasts from May 7 – May 9 for private schools and May 7 – May 11 for public schools.
