Founded in 1953, Shanghai Dianji University (SDJU) is a polytechnic university focusing on engineering as well as other disciplines such as economics, management and liberal arts.

It has two campuses in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special area and Minhang district, with nearly 1,089 faculty members and over 13,600 students. Over 51 percent of its 889 full-time teachers have doctoral degrees. There are presently 48 undergraduate specialities.

The university, which has an emphasis on imparting practical skills relevant to the advanced manufacturing and modern services industries, is a demonstration university in Shanghai for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship bases. It has to date established several training and R&D bases for university-enterprise cooperation and international technology exchange in the equipment manufacturing field.

The university has established cooperative relationships with 118 universities in 32 countries and regions and conducted credit exchange programs with nearly 30 overseas universities.
