Founded in 1953, Shanghai Dianji University (SDJU) is a polytechnic university focusing on engineering as well as other disciplines such as economics, management and liberal arts.

It has two campuses in Shanghai's Lin-gang area and Minhang district, with nearly 1,100 faculty members and over 13,000 students. Over 48 percent of its 853 full-time teachers have doctoral degrees.

The university, which has an emphasis on imparting practical skills relevant to the advanced manufacturing and modern services industries, is a demonstration university in Shanghai for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship bases. It has to date established several training and R&D bases for university-enterprise cooperation and international technology exchange in the equipment manufacturing field.

SDJU currently offers six graduate programmes: energy power, international business, electronic information, machinery, materials and chemicals, control science and engineering. There are presently 44 undergraduate specialities.

The university has established cooperative relationships with 93 universities in 29 countries and regions and conducted credit exchange programmes with nearly 30 overseas universities.
