Did you know that Xuhui district traces the origins of its name to renowned Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) scientist Xu Guangqi? After his passing, his descendants continued to live and prosper here, giving rise to the name "Xujiahui" (literally "Xu family gathering"), which was later abbreviated to "Xuhui".
