Shanghai opens 64-hectare urban forest near Qiantan
A 64-hectare urban forest, dubbed "Shanghai's Altay" for its resemblance to the scenic landscapes of Altay in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, has opened in central Pudong New Area.
Located south of the Qiantan business district, between the Middle and Outer Ring Roads, Sanlin Binjiang Urban Forest spans an area equivalent to 90 standard soccer pitches.
The highlight of the park is a 10.7-hectare wetland forest, the largest of its kind in central Shanghai, featuring more than 3,500 cypress trees, nearly one-third of which grow in water.
Wooden boardwalks traverse the wetland, allowing visitors to stroll through the forest and observe local waterbirds.
The scenery changes with the seasons, shifting from vibrant green in spring to rich orange and crimson in late autumn.
This untouched wetland naturally attracts various species of waterbirds, offering visitors an immersive nature experience.
Beyond the aquatic woods, the park integrates diverse landscapes including hillocks, plains, bamboo groves, and ecological islets.
Chuntiao Garden in the south features a low-lying camphor grove that creates a secluded wetland environment.
Across the Xiaohuangpu River, the Red Leaf Forest is populated with deciduous trees that provide colorful autumn foliage.
Fengqi Garden, the park's central and largest section, connects rolling hills, plains, and aquatic habitats into a continuous landscape.
To the north, Hancui Garden features central Shanghai's largest bamboo grove, spanning 30,000 square meters.
