Putuo fosters digital innovation ecosystem, powers up digital economy
Putuo district launched this year's Shanghai digital literacy and skills improvement month starting on June 19, with the goal of enhancing citizens' digital skills and supporting high-quality urban growth.
By capitalizing on the opportunities created by the Shanghai-Nanjing Industrial Innovation Belt, Putuo is actively promoting regional science and technology innovation, upgrading its industries, and establishing a digital transformation demonstration zone in Haina town.
Starting in 2021, the 2.32-square-kilometer town of Haina partners with Hangzhou's Yunqi town and Wuxi's Xuelang town through a trilateral mechanism to promote the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
Haina Digital Innovation Center, known as the town's "smart brain", hosts advanced institutions such as the Shanghai Haina Academy of Engineering and the China Center of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. Soon, a public digital service center will also open here, further strengthening the district's innovation efforts.
Haina town has drawn around 3,000 digital economy companies specializing in advanced computing, digital advertising, and digital energy, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the district's total economic output.
At the same time, Putuo is developing a digital advertising hub. Shanghai's first downtown digital advertising park in the Zhenru area hosts over 170 companies involved in new media, MCN, and marketing, generating more than 15 billion yuan ($2.09 billion) in revenue. In June, the Shanghai office of the China Advertising Association of Commerce and the renowned Tiger Roar Awards established their presence here.
Putuo unveiled a plan for high-quality growth in the advertising sector, with district-wide advertising revenue reaching 40 billion yuan in 2024. The district also aims to create a digital advertising industry alliance serving enterprises throughout Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region.
