Shanghai Metro launches on-site currency exchange at airport stations
Shanghai's rail transit system has opened pilot currency exchange outlets at Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 Station and Pudong Airport Terminal 1&2 Station on the city's Airport Link Line, starting April 9. The move marks a further step in making Shanghai's transport network more international and traveler-friendly.
As two major gateways for international travel, Hongqiao and Pudong airports handle large volumes of overseas visitors arriving for business, tourism, or family visits. In the past, travelers often had to go to visit designated currency exchange counters inside airport terminals before taking the metro into the city.
For the first time, Shanghai Metro has introduced currency exchange services directly into the airport transit stations. This seamless air-to-rail connection allows international passengers to exchange money as soon as they step off the plane and enter the metro station, without making any extra detours.
Looking ahead, Shanghai Metro plans to expand similar currency exchange services to other transport hubs and stations near central business districts, making it even easier for both international and domestic travelers to access local currency.
