Guidelines for 2nd Chinese Bridge global storytelling contest

The second Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreigners across the Globe - Storytelling Contest will be conducted both online and offline this year.

The competition encompasses three stages: preliminary, semi-final, and final. The preliminary round is currently underway.

Offline preliminary rounds will take place in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, Tianjin, and Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province. Participants can select the nearest location to partake in the offline selection process.

The competition is organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and co-hosted by the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) and Wuzhou Hanfeng Network Technology (Beijing) Co Ltd (ChinesePlus).

Guidelines for online preliminary round

1. Submission requirements

(1) Theme: Open

(2) Formats: Vlogs, talk shows, interviews, documentaries, comedy sketches, and more are welcome, approximately two to five minutes in length.

(3) Language: Entries must narrate a story in Chinese.

(4) Technical specifications: Video resolution should not be lower than 1280*720, with file formats of MP4, MOV, AVI, and WMV accepted.

(5) Copyright requirements: Video content must be original and must not infringe on third-party legal rights. Unauthorized use of copyrighted materials and plagiarism are strictly prohibited. Any violation will result in disqualification. Entries should promote positivity and must not include pornography, violence, or racial discrimination, and should refrain from including advertisements.

(6) Submission notes: Submitting an entry implies authorized use for event promotion and broadcasting by the organizers. The copyright and broadcasting rights of independently awarded works belong to the organizers. The organizers also hold the broadcasting and adaptation rights of all other entries. Additionally, the organizers have the right to retain materials for later production of summary and promotional videos.

2. Eligibility

(1) Participants must be foreign nationals within China who are learning Chinese.

(2) Participants must be non-native Chinese speakers and non-Chinese residents.

(3) Minors participating must obtain consent from their guardians.

Guidelines for offline preliminary round

1. Competitions by region

East China Preliminary Competition

Venue: student activity center theater, Hangzhou Xiasha Higher Education Zone campus, Hangzhou Dianzi University

Registration deadline: April 10

North China Preliminary Competition

Venue: student activity center, Weijin Road campus, Tianjin University

Registration deadline: April 18

Competition date: April 21

Northwest China Preliminary Competition

Venue: lecture hall, library, Xi'an Kedagaoxin University

2. Onsite presentation

Participants will take turns sharing stories in Chinese, in no specific format. Each participant's onsite presentation must not exceed three minutes. Judges will provide comprehensive scores onsite.

Each region holds three pass cards, granting direct entry to the semi-final. Participants who do not receive a pass card will undergo online selection based on onsite scores.

3. Registration

Exceptional participants from the preliminary rounds will receive comprehensive support from the event organizing committee for their journey to Zhangjiajie, Hunan province, where they will compete in the semi-finals and finals.
