East China Normal University triumphs in dragon boat race

The 14th Shanghai Region and second Yangtze River Delta HEIs International Students Dragon Boat Race took place on May 25 at the Fengxian campus of East China University of Science and Technology – located in East China's Shanghai.

Teams from 34 universities across Shanghai, as well as from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces – including prestigious institutions like Fudan University and Zhejiang University – converged to vie for the coveted title in the time-honored event.

Demonstrating their prowess and particularly strong teamwork, the international student dragon boat team from East China Normal University clinched the championship once again, delivering their sixth such triumph.

From the very start at the race venue, the ECNU dragon boat team surged forwards, swiftly seizing the lead.

Despite securing the top spot in the initial round with a score of 51"92 seconds, the team maintained unwavering focus, a steady rhythm and formidable drive – ultimately securing victory with an impressive score of 53"34 seconds.

Preparations for the competition started in March, culminating in a formidable team comprising students from 14 countries – Norway, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Malaysia, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan and Indonesia.

The teammates spanned visiting, undergraduate and master's degree students.

Their performance is said to have underscored their athletic prowess, but also celebrated their unity and work ethic. It also exemplified the active integration of international students into the university's student body and culture – embodying the enduring spirit of traditional Chinese sports.
