The 2024 Buick Campus Invitational took place at the Minhang campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University on Aug 16. Thousands of spectators witnessed two exhilarating basketball games between the men’s and women’s teams of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and New York University (NYU).

The fierce competition between the teams ignited the passion of fans from both universities, with thunderous cheers resonating throughout the arena. Ultimately, the SJTU men's team triumphed over NYU, after which the SJTU women's team also emerged victorious. This high-caliber showdown between Chinese and American universities was broadcast live to a global audience via the Great Sports Channel, ESPNU (Entertainment and Sports Programming Network University), and various online platforms.

The visit of over 40 members from NYU basketball teams marked the first youth sports exchange between the two cities since the renewal of their friendly cooperation memorandum earlier this year. This event fostered deep friendships among the players, who showed mutual respect and admiration both on and off the court.

Beyond the matches, the organizers invited the NYU team to explore Shanghai, visiting several iconic landmarks. SJTU players served as "tour guides," introducing their New York counterparts to the local culture and cuisine.

Using sports as a bridge, this event facilitated dialogue between students from Shanghai and New York, further promoting local and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and the United States.
