International university students shine at SSE Cup innovation & entrepreneurship competition

The inaugural "Shanghai Stock Exchange Cup" Shanghai College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held its award ceremony at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology on Sept 23. A total of 36 projects were recognized, including six first prizes, 12 second prizes, and 18 third prizes. The competition spanned six categories: biomedicine, artificial intelligence, financial technology, cultural creativity and industrial innovation, next-generation information technology, and high-end equipment manufacturing. Award-winning projects are prioritized for venture capital funding or guaranteed loans, with interest subsidies available.

The competition attracted 2,019 project entries from 140 universities worldwide. Six entrepreneurial projects, covering medical care, smart agriculture, lithography processes, and robotics, won first prizes. Notably, Cheng Sirui, a graduate student from Tongji University, secured the highest award in the 4th Shanghai Talent+ Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition with the project "FingerDance - Building a 'Babel Tower' for the Global Deaf Community".

The organizers highlighted the high level of international participation in the competition, drawing students from prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, and University of London. The competition focuses on the commercialization of technological achievements, with several districts in Shanghai set to support the implementation and incubation of participating projects.
