ShanghaiRanking's 2024 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects has been released, containing rankings in 55 subjects across the fields of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.

The rankings assessed over 3,000 universities worldwide, listing more than 1,900 institutions from 96 countries and regions.

Shanghai's universities excelled in the rankings, with 281 disciplines from 21 universities represented in the rankings. Shanghai Jiao Tong University led with 49 ranked disciplines, followed by Fudan University with 44, and Tongji University with 36. Additionally, East China Normal University and Shanghai University each had over 20 disciplines ranked.

In specific subject rankings, Shanghai universities secured three top spots: Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Marine/Ocean Engineering, Tongji University in Civil Engineering, and Donghua University in Textile Science and Engineering. Moreover, Shanghai Jiao Tong University achieved the top three global positions in Nanoscience and Technology (2nd), Energy Science and Engineering (2nd), and Biomedical Engineering (3rd).
