Shanghai committed to cultivating global talent

From 2018 to 2024, the number of Shanghai universities' disciplines ranked in the top 1, 0.1, and 0.01 percent of the Essential Science Indicators database surged to 186, 39, and three, respectively, reflecting growth rates of 113.8, 290, and 200 percent.
Shanghai universities have been expanding their global influence by adjusting academic structures to align with global industry demands.
In 2023, the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai municipal government signed a strategic cooperation agreement to drive comprehensive higher education reform. This initiative focuses on enhancing talent cultivation and optimizing educational structures.
As part of this reform, new colleges specializing in AI, big data, and integrated circuits were established to keep pace with global technological advancements. Notably, many institutions in Shanghai have developed core microelectronics programs and interdisciplinary postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
Further underscoring Shanghai's commitment to academic excellence are its training programs in specialized fields like international law and agricultural management, ensuring that the city remains a hub for fostering innovation and cultivating talent.
