Shanghai Jiao Tong University supercharges tech education with more seats
Shanghai Jiao Tong University recently announced plans to expand its undergraduate enrollment capacity by 150 students in 2025, targeting the global demand for expertise in cutting-edge technologies and emerging industries.
The expansion will focus on key sectors, such as artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, biomedicine, healthcare, and renewable energy, aligning with both national strategic priorities and international technological trends.

The university has been steadily increasing its undergraduate intake by nearly 150 students annually, concentrating on globally important disciplines. To drive innovation in the field of electronic information and electrical engineering, SJTU has established specialized schools, including the School of Computer Science, School of Integrated Circuits, School of Automation and Perception, and School of Electrical Engineering.
Furthermore, the university is leading a transformative "AI+" initiative, modernizing traditional disciplines to meet global standards. This includes the development of 357 AI courses in the initial phase, with plans for an additional 168 courses and 15 interdisciplinary AI micro-majors. The goal is to reshape the curriculum and redefine educational objectives to better equip students for the job market.
The first projects span nine professional AI+ tracks, covering areas such as intelligent marine unmanned technology, aerospace engineering with a focus on intelligent aircraft, intelligent medical engineering, smart energy engineering, robotics, and intelligent manufacturing.
