Shanghai Jiao Tong University opens 2026 admissions for international students in Chinese-taught undergraduate programs
Shanghai Jiao Tong University has launched its 2026 Chinese-taught undergraduate programs for international students. Applications are now open.

Eligibility
1.Completion of high school or equivalent education. Prospective graduates must submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by their school and obtain their high school diploma before enrollment.
2. Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport, in accordance with the Notice on Regulating Admission of International Students in China's Higher Education Institutions by the Ministry of Education at
http://www.moe.gov.cn/srcsite/A20/moe_850/202006/t20200609_464159.html, among others.
3.Good physical and mental health with no criminal record.
4. Outstanding academic performance, supported by the following documents:
- Prospective graduates must provide the transcripts for all high school courses completed up to the time of application.
- Standardized test scores or national/regional unified high school graduation or university entrance exam results, including SAT (code: 9184), AP, ACT (code: 3038), A-Level, IB (code: N010601), and UEC. If unavailable, a written explanation must be provided.
- China Scholastic Competency Assessment (https://csca.cn/home) score report. Specific subject requirements are detailed in the List of Majors for 2026 SJTU Chinese-Taught Undergraduate Programs for International Students. Applicants who have not yet taken the CSCA may submit other materials initially. Selected applicants will receive a pre-admission notice and must submit their CSCA scores by June 30, 2026, to obtain formal admission.
- Additional supporting materials required by the school.
5. Excellent language proficiency, supported by the following documents:
- Chinese proficiency proof, with at least one of the following materials required:
(1) HSK Level 5 with a total score of 200 and above, including Writing ≥ 60; or HSK Level 6 with a total score of 180 and above, including Writing ≥ 60.
(2) Other equivalent proof, such as a native Chinese speaker certification.
(3) Application Form for One Year of Chinese Language Courses (scan QR code below to fill in the form). This requirement applies only to conditionally admitted applicants who need one year of Chinese language preparation.
- English proficiency proof, with at least one of the following materials required:
(1) TOEFL scores (code: D070).
(2) IELTS scores.
(3) Other supporting materials, such as a native English speaker certification or English language study certificates.
Application period
Early Round: 8 am, Dec 8, 2025 – 5 pm, Feb 5, 2026
Regular Round: 8 am, Feb 6, 2026 – 5 pm, March 10, 2026
Application and admission process
Step 1: Complete the online application following the steps below.
1. Register and log in to the Study at SJTU online application system at https://apply.sjtu.edu.cn during the designated application period. Select New Application Form→ Undergraduate → Chinese-Taught Programs.
2. Fill out the application form and upload all required documents as specified in the application materials list. Scan the QR code below to access the list.
3. Pay the application fee online. Note: The application fee is non-refundable once paid.
4. Submit the application form. Incomplete or unsubmitted applications will be considered invalid.
Step 2: Regular Round applicants must take the SJTU International Undergraduate Entrance Exam.
1. Format: Online examination.
2. Date: March 21 to 22, 2026. Detailed schedules will be sent via email to applicants later.
3. Subjects: Applicants are required to take corresponding exams based on their program category. Specific program categories can be found in the List of Majors for 2026 SJTU Chinese-Taught Undergraduate Programs for International Students.

Step 3: Attend the interview.
Eligible applicants will be invited for an interview to assess their comprehensive abilities and language skills. Specific arrangements will be announced on the "Study@SJTU" website at https://isc.sjtu.edu.cn or via email.
Step 4: Check pre-admission results and confirm enrollment.
Pre-admission offers will be issued based on a comprehensive evaluation. Applicants may log in to the application system "Study@SJTU" at https://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/c.asp?action=sign to check their pre-admission status.
Those who receive a pre-admission notice should pre-pay tuition in the application system to confirm enrollment within two weeks after the result announcement. Failure to confirm within the deadline will be regarded as a waiver of the admission qualification.
Step 5: Download the admission letter.
Electronic versions of the formal admission letters will be available for download from the applicant's registered email starting July 2026. Hard copies will be provided during registration at the beginning of the semester.
Scholarships
Outstanding applicants will have the opportunity to be awarded different kinds of scholarships, such as the Chinese Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship, and the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship.
1. Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC Scholarship)
Apply directly through the local Chinese embassy or consulate in your country. For details on application periods and requirements, please refer to their official announcements. On the application form, list Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the priority institution. Scholarship terms are subject to the China Scholarship Council.
Note: SJTU does not provide free accommodation but offers a monthly housing subsidy of 1,100 yuan ($141.4).
2. Shanghai Government Scholarship and SJTU Scholarship
Apply through SJTU by clicking the option "Apply for Scholarship" when completing SJTU's online application form. Details of the scholarship are as follows:

3. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

Program start date
Early September 2026. The specific date will be indicated in the admission notice.
Fees
1. Application fee: 800 yuan. The application fee is non-refundable once paid.
2. Tuition: 24,800 yuan per academic year.
Note: Tuition for the Global Institute of Future Technology is to be announced separately.
3. Insurance: 800 yuan per academic year. According to China's relevant regulations, international students studying in China for over six months must purchase comprehensive insurance as a prerequisite for registration.
4. Accommodation: 6,600 to 12,600 yuan per semester, depending on room type and campus arrangements. Students may choose on-campus housing or off-campus rentals. Those requiring on-campus housing must reserve a dormitory within the designated period.
