Program introduction

Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) offers international undergraduate programs taught in Chinese, featuring diverse learning models and well-structured curricula. The programs are designed to equip students with solid professional knowledge and practical skills while cultivating a global perspective, cross-cultural communication abilities, and innovative thinking. Program highlights include:

University profile

SUES is a well-established full-time public university specializing in applied technologies and engineering sciences in China, recognized for its strengths in the area. It was among the first pilot institutions under the Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Program of the Ministry of Education and the pioneer of Emerging Engineering Education and High-level Application-oriented Universities in Shanghai.

SUES operates three campuses, comprises 19 schools, and offers programs at doctoral, master's, undergraduate, and vocational college levels. Approved early by the Ministry of Education of China to admit international students, it has been enrolling and educating international students since 1985. International students can apply for undergraduate English-taught programs, undergraduate Chinese-taught programs, master's English-taught programs, master's Chinese-taught programs, Chinese Language and Culture programs, and short-term exchange programs through the College of International Education (CIE).

SUES is a designated institution for the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship. CIE has enrolled over 4,000 international students from more than 100 countries and regions, including Germany, the US, Japan, Russia, Italy, Australia, Mexico, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, Congo, and Ghana.

Note: The 13 majors across the four major categories marked with an asterisk (*) implement broad-based enrollment. After admission, students will be assigned to specific programs based on the assessment requirements of their respective schools.

 

Duration and enrollment

Duration: 4 years

Enrollment: September 2026

Location: Songjiang Campus (subject to further notices if any change occurs)

 

Program fees

  • Tuition:

- Non-arts majors: 20,000 yuan per academic year (about $2,900)

- Arts majors: 23,000 yuan per academic year

  • Sino-foreign cooperative programs follow specific pricing. Students enrolled in these programs are responsible for their own tuition fees and other expenses incurred during their studies at the partner institutions.
  • Specific procedures for tuition payment and refunds are subject to university policy.
  • Insurance: 800 yuan per academic year
  • Accommodation: 1,200 yuan per academic year for a four-bed room)

 

Application eligibility

1.  Applicants shall be between 18 to 25. Applicants aged 16 to 18 must submit a guardian's guarantee statement.

2.  Applicants shall be in good health.

3.  Applicants must have a senior high school diploma or above.

4.  Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport, complying with relevant regulations.

5.  Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 with a score of 180.

 

Required documents

1.  Senior high school diploma or equivalent, and complete high school transcripts or equivalent.

Note: Documents must be original or notarized copies in Chinese or English with official stamps and signatures. Applicants who apply before completing high school must submit official proof of their expected graduation date. Graduation certificate copies and final transcripts must be submitted upon receipt.

2.  Copy of HSK certificate.

3.  Copy of passport with expiry date no earlier than Feb 28, 2027.

Note: If the passport has been renewed, please provide the renewed information page. If applying from outside the home country, provide a valid visa for the current country.

4.  Recent passport-sized ID photo within six months.

9.  Birth certificate or other documents proving family relationship

10. Supplementary materials:

- Other documents requested by the university.

- Awards, honors, or other materials deemed beneficial for the application.

- Applicants with prior study or living experience in China should provide all related visas, residence permits, study certificates, transcripts, and temporary accommodation registration forms.

- Applicants under 18 by Sept 1 upon enrollment must submit a notarized guardian's guarantee letter. The guardian must reside in China and can be a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with a valid residence permit. For Chinese guardians: provide an ID card and a household registration information page. For foreign guardians: provide a passport and a residence permit valid throughout the guardianship period.

Note: Applicants are responsible for the authenticity of all documents provided. Discovery of fraudulent materials may lead to penalties, including revocation of admission or degree, according to SUES's regulations.

Scholarships

SUES offers scholarships for outstanding international students, including the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship and the SUES Scholarship for international students.

1. Categories and coverage:

(1) Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship (Type A): Covers tuition, comprehensive insurance, and living allowance for the standard program duration.

(2) Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship (Type B) / SUES Scholarship: Covers tuition and comprehensive insurance for the standard program duration.

Note: Scholarships are subject to annual assessment.

2. Eligibility:

(1) Meet the program application requirements.

(2) Meet the university and major-specific conditions.

(3) Meet academic and comprehensive assessment requirements.

(4) Not receiving any other Chinese government scholarship concurrently.

(5) For the Shanghai Government Scholarship, an HSK Level 4 score of 180 is required.

3. How to apply:

Apply when submitting the program application via the SUES International Student Online Application System.

 

Program application procedure

1. Online application: Register, complete, and upload documents via the SUES International Student Online Application System.

2. Entrance examination: Attend the interview upon receiving the notification. Details on the time and venue will be further communicated. Ensure your email address is accurate.

3. Application status: Application progress can be tracked via email or the online application system.

4. Admission and enrollment: The results can be checked via the online system. Admission letters will be issued by August 2026. Admitted students must register on campus by the specified date. Original graduation certificates, transcripts, and other documents will be verified during registration. Failed verification will result in admission cancellation.
