Shanghai Jiao Tong University plans to launch a traditional Chinese martial arts experience titled "Posture by Posture, Discover Chinese Culture", inviting international students interested in Chinese martial arts to experience meihuaquan firsthand.

The event will guide participants through the fundamentals, offering them an immersive and relaxing meihuaquan experience. Registration is now open, with details listed below.

What is meihuaquan?

Meihuaquan, historically known as Plum Blossom Stakes, is a traditional Chinese internal martial art. It originally got its name because it was practiced on rows of over 100 stakes. Today, it is mostly practiced on flat ground, and is also known as "Luodi Meihua" (Ground Plum Blossom).

Meihuaquan is more than just a martial art—it is a discipline that integrates elements of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and military strategy. It emphasizes the integration of civil virtues and martial skills, as its boxing principles state: "Although martial training manifests outwardly, true literary virtue resides within."

The training of meihuaquan mainly includes:

- Jiazi (the frame): Divided into zhuangbu (stake posture) and xingbu (moving posture), Jiazi combines stillness and motion, unifying internal and external cultivation and integrating essence, energy and spirit.

- Chengquan (combat practice): Chengquan is a two-person practice involving grabbing, striking, throwing, tumbling, and rolling. It promotes the smooth flow of qi and blood, protects the body and prevents falls, and can cultivate an indomitable spirit.

- Equipment: The activity offers a complete range of unique and rare martial arts weapons. Equipment training is the main way to refine one's spirit.

- Ningquan (advanced boxing): Ningquan is an advanced martial art featuring no patterns or steps, and unpredictable, subtle random techniques.
