Exhibition celebrates friendship between Shanghai, Sofia
An exhibition of ancient Chinese bronze mirror rubbings debuted at the China Cultural Center in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, on Dec 15, and will run through Jan 10, 2025.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bulgaria. Shanghai and Sofia became friendship cities in 2016.
The exhibition is the inaugural overseas exhibition for the Jinshan Museum, featuring mirror rubbings donated by Wang Ganghuai, a distinguished expert in the field.
The exhibition is divided into three parts: Totem Worship, Natural Science and Technology, and Humanistic History.
The 75 bronze mirror rubbings, from the pre-Qin period (before 221 BC) to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), offer a glimpse into the development of bronze mirrors made in ancient China.
Ancient Chinese people had a tradition of making rubbings of bronze mirrors. A mirror is not only a common object in daily life but also reflects techniques, aesthetics, and lifestyles.
