Shanghai's Pudong New Area and Chancay in Peru signed a Letter of Intent on April 28 to establish friendly exchange relations.

The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, education, culture, shipping, tourism, and agriculture.

It also encourages both sides to exchange experiences in the planning and development of cities surrounding Chancay Port, with the goal of enhancing urban governance and promoting sustainable growth.

Chancay Port, opened in November 2024, is a landmark China-Peru project within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Peru was one of the first Latin American countries to join the initiative.

Over the years, Pudong has been continuously expanding its global network of cooperation.

It has established a friendship city relationship with Kuopio, Finland, and forged friendly ties with 10 other major cities across Asia, Europe, and North America.

The partnership with Chancay opens a new chapter in Pudong's efforts to deepen international engagement, promote mutual benefit, and advance global cooperation.
