Shanghai intl youth camp fosters cross-cultural friendship
The 2025 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp commenced on July 11 at Pudong New Area Youth Activity Center. The event welcomed 22 youth delegations from 18 countries to foster cultural exchange and strengthen global friendships.
Since its inception in 2009, the camp, hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education, has served as an important platform for young people from Shanghai and its friendship cities to connect, exchange ideas, and cultivate lasting friendships.
Ahead of the opening ceremony, two themed markets were set up on site. One showcased Pudong's rich cultural heritage and the other highlighted cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence.
At the culture market, students and teachers from local schools demonstrated traditional crafts such as Sanlin embroidery, providing participants with hands-on experiences of China's intangible cultural heritage.
The AI zone featured interactive robots and smart tech displays, offering an engaging glimpse into the practical applications of innovation.
The opening ceremony combined tradition with modernity. Local students performed martial arts and traditional Chinese dance, while a participant from Zagreb, Croatia, delighted the audience with a diabolo performance, or Chinese yo-yo. The event concluded warmly with all participants and volunteers joining in a rendition of We Are The World.
Throughout the camp, attendees will take part in cultural workshops, technology explorations, city tours, and youth forums, deepening their appreciation of Chinese culture, sparking interest in innovation, and forging global friendships.
