A delegation led by Alvaro Damiao, mayor of Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais, Brazil, visited Shanghai's Pudong New Area on Oct 10. During the visit, Pudong and Belo Horizonte signed a letter of intent to establish friendly exchange and cooperation relations.

Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais, is one of the country's largest cities and a major political, economic, and cultural center.

The city is home to a key Google engineering center in Latin America with rare access to search-related technologies and features the Pampulha Modern Ensemble, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

During the visit, both sides held in-depth discussions on potential collaboration and exchanged experiences in urban development, social governance, and public safety, aiming to promote mutual growth and prosperity.

This year, Pudong established friendly ties with Chancay district in Peru and renewed its cooperation memorandum with Val-d'Oise, France, and Seoul's Gangnam district.

To date, the district has formed a friendship city relationship with Kuopio, Finland, and forged friendly ties with 10 partners across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
