Serbian student witnesses Shanghai's rise as global city
Fhilip Filipovic from Serbia, a PhD student at Fudan University, has lived in Shanghai since he was a child. He first came to China with his parents, who were historians conducting research in the country. By the second grade, he had already become an international student, receiving a nine-year compulsory education in China.
"I've been living in Shanghai for 20 years. I can say that I've witnessed how Chinese-style modernization has transformed Shanghai into one of the greatest cities in the world," said Filipovic.
Having grown up and studied in China, Filipovic hopes to gain a deep understanding of the country both theoretically and practically, and to serve as a bridge that will help forge an "ironclad friendship" between China and Serbia in the fields of academia and diplomacy.
Filipovic has paid special attention to the resolution adopted by the third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee in mid-July, particularly the reforms related to technology, talent, and innovation. "I think these three parts, from my perspective, are the most important parts for a country's development. They function as the basic strategic underpinnings for Chinese-style modernization," Filipovic remarked. He believes that whether it is a developed or developing country, technology, talent, and innovation are key.
