In Chinese, Fu refers to the hottest days of summer, and Yang means goat. The Fu Yang Festival, a traditional Han ethnic food festival, begins on the first of the three Fu periods of the lunar calendar. It originated in the Yangtze River and Huaihe River regions, and has a long history in the Yangtze River Delta region. Eating mutton during the Fu period is believed to benefit the body by generating heat and promoting sweating.
This year's festival, held in Zhuanghang town in Shanghai's Fengxian district, will run until Aug 25, for a total of 45 days. It is packed with highlights that not only continue traditional culture, but also explore the "day + night" consumption model of cultural tourism.
It aims to create new scenes based on night tours, night dining, and night entertainment, with music, food, and the night economy as the core attractions. By promoting formats such as "music + tourism", "performances + tourism", and "intangible cultural heritage + tourism", the festival promises to be a unique summer feast.
Activities will involve night markets, handicraft creative shows, rural music festivals, and cultural performances. These includes singing, dancing, and magic shows, face-changing performing arts, acrobatics, and music shows. There will also be a shopping extravaganza and night tours.
